what can you do with a buffalo?

In social studies, we were studying the earliest Texans and how the buffalo was important to them. The students had to draw or write one way that Native Americans used the buffalo. They are smart kiddos they are.

dog tricks

So, my family really has the best dog in the world. Dallas is an 11 year old golden retriever, that, in a nutshell, rocks.

She has crazy patience and determination. She has rubbed off onto Meredith's dog Charlotte, who we have recently taken in.

Dallas has got this trick down like a pro and Charlotte is pretty entertaining to watch.

art and music and helping haitians

My dear friend and former roommate in the DR, Cara, is now working with Rachel in La Tienda, an art coop where Haitian women have learned to make jewelry and other crafty things.

Barb, Cara's mom sells a lot of the merchandise in the states, which helps give a salary to each of these women (and is especially important during this time). Barb made a trip to Houston along with her husband Mike, but art wasn't the sole purpose of this trip.

Jon, Cara's brother, played a great show Friday night. I was finally able to see him perform with Mike and the rest of the band. It really was such a fabulous show; they have mad skills like I didn't know!

It was so great seeing and catching up with Cara's entire family, listening and watching Tyagaraja, and selling things with Barb to support La Tienda. Such a fun night! Wish you were here, Cara!

glee

I have discovered a fabulous show, it is Glee! A musical fit into a sitcom that I enjoyed every week. I have Kate and Laurin and my mom to thank for it! They know me too well. If you haven't seen it, you really should! My mom, my sister Rachel, and I have been watching the season on DVD over the break. Sadly, we have to wait until April to see what happens next. Oh the agony.
